Ikea Hacks

Posted on

I love IKEA. I could easily furnish my whole house from this one store alone, so it was while searching the IKEA site for some home office furniture that I came across a number of sites and pics that are dedicated to customising your IKEA purchase. These are termed IKEA Hacks.
At first I thought this was IKEA furniture idea heaven as the possibilities are endless, but be warned you will lose hours of your life once you search it and this won’t make your decision any easier.

Kitchen Design

Posted on

In what seems like a never ending saga we are finally due to start work on our new home and with this my thoughts have turned to kitchen design.

After previously having a contemporary look I am now looking forward to a more classic style of kitchen. I have fallen for a shaker style door panel and classic styling this time around.
This post is just a short list of my favourite kitchen looks.

Your style as well? or do you love modern style kitchens?

Bedroom Interior Design

Posted on

I sometimes think that bedrooms are a bit of an after thought in most homes with us concentrating mainly on our living areas.
It got me searching (and dreaming) of what I would like my perfect bedroom to look like. Do you prefer a light and airy space? or maybe something more moodier and dark.

There is definitely no shortage of inspiration in some of these gorgeous bedroom designs.

Kids Bedroom Decorating Ideas

Posted on

We have for what seems like forever been planning a new home and it recently occurred to me that I hadn’t given much thought to the small ones bedroom so I came across these inspiring pics for anyone that was after ideas for a kids bedroom.

O.k. some are are probably over the top cost wise as far as built in bunks (but still nice to dream) but a lot of them are simple enough ideas put together quite cleverly such as painted cube storage secured to the wall, lets face it cubes are everywhere these days but this is something a bit different. There is also a pic of a chalkboard wall that is quite brilliant.

So what’s your preference? D.I.Y. or built in’s?

Decorating with colour

Posted on

Choosing the right colour scheme is what scares people the most about decorating their interior spaces but it really shouldn’t be something to be frightened of.
I must admit that despite being an artist in a former life with a very good sense of colour I still find it difficult to sometimes stray from the neutral colour palette I favour but when I do the results have so much more impact.

Decorating a space in terms of colour is as easy as 60-30-10. You’ll notice that the rooms you like the most are almost always divided into percentages of 60-30-10. Below is an example of this colour percentage.

When decorating a particular room, divide the colours into percentages:
60% of a dominant colour
30% of a secondary colour
10% of an accent colour

Translated to a room setting, it typically means:
60% of the room’s colour is the walls
30% of the room’s colour is the upholstery
10% of the room’s colour is, say, an accent piece or a floral arrangement.

Colour can be the biggest mood lifter there is so dont be afraid of a touch of colour.

American Rustic Lighting from Beacon

Posted on

Being in the midst of deciding on fixtures for a house we are building I came across the new American Rustic range from Beacon Lighting for Winter 2013.
These are gorgeous and a pleasant departure form the slick modern designs that sometimes dominate the marketplace. It’s nice to see a retailer with an eye on the American traditional trends as well as the European ones.
