Free Nautical Printables

Free Nautical Printables

After recently moved into a new house I was looking for some nautical inspired prints to fill up my walls. I came across some brilliant vintage images on a site called Graphics Fairy.

There are a number of vintage etchings and drawings to choose from so I decided on nine images as I wanted a nice symmetry.

These images can be printed on A4 or resized to any size. I used some inexpensive 10 x 8 white frames from Kmart for $6 each (bargain) and found that an A4 size fits in these with relatively little trimming, make sure your actual image opening size is 10 x 8.

Be sure to use a good quality paper, I used a watercolour A4 sized paper 180gsm. Normal photocopy paper wont give as nice a finish as a thicker paper.

I chose to change my print colour to Navy blue. This can easily be done in Windows live photo gallery. The attached download is in black as most people love black 🙂

Instructions below and download at the end of post x

Remove the frame stand from the back of the frame as this will allow the frame to sit flush against the wall when hanging.

Use the cardboard template from inside the frame as a guide to trim your print.

Ikea Hacks

I love IKEA. I could easily furnish my whole house from this one store alone, so it was while searching the IKEA site for some home office furniture that I came across a number of sites and pics that are dedicated to customising your IKEA purchase. These are termed IKEA Hacks.
At first I thought this was IKEA furniture idea heaven as the possibilities are endless, but be warned you will lose hours of your life once you search it and this won’t make your decision any easier.

Kitchen Design

In what seems like a never ending saga we are finally due to start work on our new home and with this my thoughts have turned to kitchen design.

After previously having a contemporary look I am now looking forward to a more classic style of kitchen. I have fallen for a shaker style door panel and classic styling this time around.
This post is just a short list of my favourite kitchen looks.

Your style as well? or do you love modern style kitchens?

Timber Flooring vs Engineered Timber Flooring

flooring 1

I am currently in the process of deciding on the type of flooring to have in our new home once it is built.
After having had a timber floor in our current home I was determined that this was the best option this time arouns, hard wearing, looks good e.t.c. but the dilemma started when I decided to go for a dark chocolate coloured timber and lets just say I am now completely undecided which way to go so I need some help from anyone out there that has used engineered timber flooring.
Solid timber floors are just what they sound like, solid timber boards with a variety of finish options from satin to high shine. These are typically more expensive than pre finished or engineered floors and have the option of being able to be sanded and re-finished a number of times over the life of the floor.
Engineered flooring is a usually timber fascia board of a thinner thickness attached to a manufactured interlocking board. You will have to excuse my descriptions here, flooring expert I am definitely not, but the idea of the engineered flooring is quicker install, no mess and less chance of warping, the downside apparently is that you do not have the option of multiple sanding and re-finishes.
So here is my dilemma. Apart form the obvious cost difference (solid timber being more expensive) the solid timber needs to be sanded and then stained to the desired colour, which will take days and be quite messy also. Engineered flooring on the other hand is cheaper and quicker to install and has the desired colour without staining. So I am looking for some guidance here, who out there has used the engineered flooring and how did you find it? how does it compare with the solid timber products? I am looking at a few of the  engineered options and am seriously tempted, so any ideas to help me out with this decision would be much appreciated?

Bedroom Interior Design

Posted on

I sometimes think that bedrooms are a bit of an after thought in most homes with us concentrating mainly on our living areas.
It got me searching (and dreaming) of what I would like my perfect bedroom to look like. Do you prefer a light and airy space? or maybe something more moodier and dark.

There is definitely no shortage of inspiration in some of these gorgeous bedroom designs.
